Say a person has been having a really rough time living, And figures they should cut their loses...
Should they be able to?
When life becomes a burden can we just check out?
If tomorrow seems overwhelming what's wrong with leaving?
When the highs become lower, and the low points are more frequent, and being sad and listless are embarrassing, isn't it better to leave with a smile and some control?
I am depressed again and I really want to cut my losses, but I need some sympathy, and understanding, first?
I believe people contemplate suicide when, they can not see any end to their misery, no hints of peace and fulfillment on the horizon, and want to cease the throbbing emptiness and sorrow!
Eulogy please!!

No, it is not a right! Human life is too sacred for this.
Each human life is important.
Recently I suffered a bout of suicidal depression. I got through it partly by praying, and also by telling myself that I only had to hang on one hour at a time. Come night-time I would talk myself into going to bed and enjoying the peaceful night-time and I could worry about depression in the morning. In the morning I again talked myself into hanging on one hour at a time. I also talked to a therapist. This is what worked for me.

nope because too a lot of people would take advantage of our lives so some guidelines are known. The founding fathers realized there'll continually be the haves and performance nots. The have nots if given loose area with their lives would likely do alot of issues that arent solid for them to change right into a have. promoting youself will develop the prospect of having HIV etc. Drug use is an get away from reality for a short while and then reality comes decrease back and also you may want to do all of it yet yet again even as the guy promoting the drugs truly has loose area over your existence. Suicide is possibly ok yet there are approaches to exploit that besides.

I absolutely think it needs to be illegal to take your own life. Please, people, think through what would happen if this were not the case. Most people who kill themselves are suffering from temporary conditions like depression, unemployment, broken relationships, etc. that can and probably will change if given the time. It's usually a fairly rash decision.
If it were legal to kill yourself, then no one would have the legal right to try and talk down the guy on the bridge who just broke up with his girlfriend and forgot to take his depression meds that day. If the guy doesn't jump, chances are he'll wake up tomorrow and see that his life is probably not as bad as it seemed the night before.
I do not want to live in a world where our hands are tied from helping people who obviously need it because committing suicide is "their right."

The first response has the gist of it. Life is very long and when you dip down into these feelings the scope of your assessment is incomplete. Obviously because you have not completed your whole life. I think you will only know after it is complete, then you be able to say whether it was worth it. Don't you want to find out?
Try expanding the circle. We all have this area of concern around us. I think of it as a circle. Sometimes when we are selfish or frightened the circle is very small and includes only our self. Try and push out the circle to include people around you, even people you don't like. After you are able to spend some calories on other people your insight will grow and your stability will increase too.

i dont really think that you should take your own life. while you dont feel it will get any better, it can if you give it time. a big part of it getting better is your attitude. and your attitude is definitly very difficult to change when you are depressed, but dont let that stop you from at least trying. if you need help you can always talk to people. get on yahoo and just talk to people in the social lounge of games or something. it can always get better if you let it and help it out, but death is pretty final. not an option i would ever take myself or ever EVER say someone else should do.

I think theres always a way to bring someone back from that kind of thinking. By teaching them things like this:
"The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of the state of your mind."
But, I do agree with you. If someone really wants to end their life, I dont think anyone has the right to stop them. I just think they should be offered other ways first, but if their mind is really made up, let them. Besides, I think if suicide was legalized, less people would do it. I think suicide attempts are more a cry for help or attention than anything else.
Thats my observation after seeing my aunt try to kill herself four times.

I think that if a person wants to take their own life they should be able to do that. What angers me are those who are "suicidal" and decide to kill a few people that had nothing to do with it. Take for example the guy who killed those Amish school children and then himself.
