There aren't any cities in Alaska remotely large enough for a pro sports team. Anchorage is the largest city with only 275,000 people. There are onl 650,000 in the entire state and they are very spread out!
The smallest market in the NHL is Edmonton Alberta where hockey is huge and like Alaska, Alberta is flowing in oil money. Edmonton has a population of just about 1 million even and it has severly struggled to keep its team. In fact Calgary which is a bit bigger and one of the richest cities in the world per capita with lots of big oil company head offices, along with Ottawa have also struggled with small-market problems. These are Canadian cities where hockey has no competition at all and fans are very knowledgeable.
Short answer - there's not team in Alaska and there's none on the way. There'll NEVER be an NHL team in Alaska unless a city of 2 million appears - then they can have the Penguins!!!

I live in Alaska. I would love it if we had our own NHL hockey team. We have a lot of good players here and many hockey fans.
