They are a good young up and coming team and they just blew a HUGE chunk of their salary cap on two (very gifted, but still) defensive players.

Getting and staying under the salary cap needs to be a goal for any modern NFL team that hopes to stay competitive for their fans. Did Nolan just sacrifice the future to get to the playoffs next season?

Someone reassure me so I can enjoy the a** kicking the niners are going to lay down in the NFC West next season.

i sort of agree with you, but nowadays, teams need to win immediately, we cannot wait more time, i think the NINERS will have a breakthrough season. So stay tune and let's be patient so our team goes back to the SUPER BOWL. No doubt they will be an elite force this coming season with this updated defense, moreover, we got gore, smith, davis and all the offensive gang. go NINERS!!!

The 49ers were over 30 million under the salary cap so they had money to spend. Getting Nate Clements (and Lewis to a certain degree) was huge considering the receivers the 49ers face in their division:

Anquan Boldin
Larry Fitzgerald
Torry Holt
Isaac Bruce
Deion Branch

The 49ers now have a pretty good secondary (Walt Harris was solid last year) to cover these guys.

Now if they can only get some wide receivers of their own...

I guess you are too ignorant to understand the salary cap. They only owe Lewis and Clements a combined total of 8 million dollars at the most this year. That still leaves them with 30 million in their salary cap. The 80 mil to clements is a lot but they can release him, get a new contract done, or whatever after 4 years to save their cap. These guys are in the business for a reason, AND YOU"RE NOT for a reason.

Thats what i thought as well !! 80 million is way too much it should of been 70 or 65 million 6-7 year contract for Nate Clements and the one for Lewis.

But who knows if it will pay off or not we will have to wait and see.... The niners will be better next season hopefully..

I think it was a very good move. We needed some D and we got some in the secondary. We just need to pick up a good pass rusher. FOR SURE WERE GONNA WIN THE NFC WEST!!! LETS GO NINERS!!!

Me and my friends made predictions for every single teams final record next year and we had the 49ers going 10-6 and taking the division. You heard it here first.

no way they got the best free agent this year in nate clements and they were 38 million under the cap so they have plenty of cap room.

Well, they needed the defensive help and they need receivers. That said, I can't see why they went for Lelie, all he is is a very quick, me first reciever that can't catch.
