Tampa needs a QB so bringing in a couple of guys to compete with Simms is really a good idea. Forget the Plummer is retiring garbage...he is signed for 5 mill. this year and surely wont walk away from that deal to come out of "retirement" to sign a veterans minimum deal with anyone. He really is trying to get dealt away to the Texans and maybe the Bucs figure they can get a 4th or 5th rounder from them (kinda like when the Texans took Drew Henson with their 6th round pick and traded him to Dallas for a 3rd rounder). Garcia is an injury risk (and old) and my guess is he is there to help Simms develop his game. Tampa doesnt run the same Philly style west coast offense and Garcia struggled badly when he wasnt put in that offense (Cleveland and Detroit). Garcia will "keep the seat warm" while Simms regains his game and Plummer will be dealt away, i think Tampa was smart and will use this situation to get them a bigger return down the road (watch how fast Garcia is dealt away when the first playoff contending team gets their QB hurt...teams will pay big to get someone like Garcia).

Well the whole trade is weird. Chris Simms contract will be over next year or so, and Jeff Garcia is getting old. They will probably have Jeff Garcia start and have Chris Simms battle the 2nd string spot with Jake Plummer. Jake Plummer is only 32 so he still could play but he might retire like he says he will. Plummer would be good for them in the 2008-2009 season when Simms and Garcia will probably be gone. Jeff Garcia will probably retire and Chris Simms will have his contract over. Plummer can then be a good investment for the Buccaneers.

the bucs cannot go after really big players because of salary cap issues. so they got the best they could at a good price, plummer and garcia. now they have three potential starting quaterbacks. they need 3 starters, because, plummer is considering retirement, garcia is old, and simms is injured. none of their quaterbacks is really a safe bet, so they need someone with experience to start.
no one know who will start, that add on the competition

They signed Garcia to be the starter. Simms will be the back up and Jake Plummer has already submitted his retirement papers to the league. I live in Houston and Jake will probably only play here under his old QB coach from Denver.

Jake Plummer is reportedly seriously considering retirement...Sounds like he wasn't too wild about going to the Bucs...

jeff garcia will be the starter and he would mentor chris simms until he retires then he can take the spot again. as for jake plummer, i think they might try to trade him to the Texans where he wants to go or he will retire.
