My son has a plane ticket to leave on March 15th. He has yet to receive his passport. The system has failed him. He applied in January. Not one word was mentioned to him about the high volume of applications until 2 weeks ago. Even then they told him to wait 7-10 days before leaving to have it expedited. So is my son screwed because of the way the government runs?

If your son is 'screwed', its because HE didn't do his homework BEFORE he applied for a passport. If he had travel plans before applying for the passport, he should have informed the Passport office of them and asked about processing time in advance.

The passport process is very slow. It is too bad he didn't tell them he needed the passport right away.
