Some people out there are suffering tremendously. While some of them seem to be "obsessed and in love" with their suffering, most of them aren't. In fact, they would do anything to stop hurting.

It's true that there are some kind-hearted people who are willing to help, to listen, and to support those who are in great suffering. Unfortunately, however, some people's pain are just way too "unbearable" ... so overwhelming that the only way to end this is to take one's own life.

This isn't true for all cases though. Some can and will recover from this (depression or some kind of terminal illness). These lucky people can and will be able to work things out and move forward. ON THE OTHER HAND, there are some people who just can't do anything to stop hurting.

I really want to know why do we refuse to let them do it - why can't we let them die if there's nothing that we can do to help them?

We don't stop people from committing suicide.

If someone really wants to commit suicide, they will do it, and will do it in such a way that doesn't fail.

If someone talks about committing suicide, or tries to commit suicide and fails, they're crying out for help or attention.

Depression is not an emotion; it is an easily treatable medical condition. Normally, thoughts of suicide are either due to drug effects and/or depression. Both of these things cause the mind to act in ways that a person normally would not. Suicide is basically a heat-of-the-moment thing, not usually planned out, not premeditated. That is why we need to stop them. With proper treatment, they can live on to enjoy themselves and have a positive effect on the world.

If you are religious, you know that it is morally wrong to kill. Allowing someone to commit suicide is just as bad as killing them yourself, because you did nothing to prevent it. A person that truly cared about others would get the person medical help, instead of allowing them to put a bullet through there brain. That is what God is all about: caring for others, helping each other, and knowing that someone will be there in your time of need. If you were chronically depressed (again, which is treatable), you might think irrationally, but I'm sure you would want someone there to pull you back as you lean over the edge. When you come out of your 'dreamworld', and realize how lucky you were, you would be glad someone lent a helping hand, and cared about you so much that they prevented you from doing something awful. I doubt you could possibly find fault with others then, and perhaps that spiralling, out-of-control sadness would end, and you would finally be able to get on with your life. Remember, there is no such thing a "too much pain" when it comes to depression. It is treatable, despite common beliefs, and it can same hundreds of thousands of people's lives every year. That is because of 30% of unnaturally-caused deaths are suicidal. Yet we hear more about AIDS and auto-safety, which are much less of an issue than suicide. AIDS is uncurable. Depression is. So why are we concerned about it? I have no idea. Most people think that depression is overwhelming and comes naturally due to stress, which is true, but it can easily be prevented with the right help.

when my brother was dying of cancer i wondered what i would do if he asked me to help him die. it never came to that but i feel that i would have helped him ease his pain. if i could do nothing else, at least i could end his misery. it is possible to be alive but not living. cant say i would want to spend my days in agony if nothing can be done about it. cant blame anyone that has had to endure the many cruelties this world has had to offer. if god, is as loving and compassionate as they claim then i don't think he would be too pissed about it either.if every option has been tried and it's pretty clear that it's not gonna get any better than by all means let that person do it. this does not include those that simply cannot deal with the fact that life is not a fairy tale and did not go the way they wanted. to these people i simply say get over it.

For some, the urge to commit suicide is a temporary one. For others, the depression that drives these desires is curable. In the interest of preventing a waste of life, we attempt to prevent all potential suicides -- even those that may not fall into these categories.

How do you know there is nothing out there to help them? There are facilities that take in people off the streets or who are depressed & suicidal & place them in an assisted living facilitiy in which they get stablizrd & made to feel that there life is worth saving. There is always hope for everyone that needs it. If you know someone who is suicidal or unstable or hurting...get them help....contact mental health....there is always someone available to reach out to those in need....it sounds to me like you gave up hope. Think positive...some where out there someone cares....never forget that....

The reason why we don't refuse to not let our loved ones (include family and friends), to commit suicide is because we actually care about them and really love them so much. And that is how we are helping in any situation. That is why we have to be strong and help as much as possible to get them out of their situation. If they are sick and not have much to live, then God will take them onto heaven on his time. God is the one it says it time to go. I know it hurts to see people heartbroken, or sick. Main thing is to pray and believe and God will answer your prayers. And he will make them well and better. And God will help them not to suffer no more. That is even when he takes him out of this world.

"IMO it go's against God's plan to take your own life or the life of someone else. Unbearable pain is horrible and sad, but I think those in the medical fields 'hope' that the person gets better - even when they know they won't. God's plan is for us to live a full life and its up to Him to decide when, where and why. "

would like to comment on this, i would call you a hypocrit... but if you thought it threw... if we weren't supposed to die, God would prevent us from commiting suicide... and maybe the way God prevents them is getting the government to make it illegal

People who wants to die so they won't suffer further will just "go"-their lack of will to live will eventually catch up with them and when they close their eyes, they'll stop breathing. For some people, it will take a little longer but it will happen.

Ive had a suicide in the family and its the most awful feeling of helplessness, guilt, remorse that enough wasn't done to help/intervene
Its the most selfish act a person can do to their loved ones who are left behind to try to pick up the pieces
