All my life I have wanted to learn to play the electric guitar. When I was younger I never could and now that I am older I want to give it a shot. I have no rock star dreams... this is just something I want to do for me. Could you please tell me the pros and cons of a Fender strat vs. a Gibson SG? Any help would be worth 10 points.

Well to start off Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, Martin, Epiphone, and B.C. Rich are all wonderful guitars, but honestly if I were you I would start learning the bass guitar first. It's a simple fun instrument to play and it really makes the step up to learning regular guitar a whole lot easier. That's what I did and I can't tell you how much it helped me when I would start to get frustrated with guitar. Bass excercises your hand muscles and builds them up and it makes for an easier transistion to the six-string. Try not to avoid the finger pain too much because it WILL hurt your fingers while learning to play the guitar because you will develope calluses. I hope this helps.

This could be a very debatable topic. They're both great guitars.
You'll really need to go to a music store and try the two out for yourself. A guitar is something that you choose almost entirely with your personal preference in music and comfort holding the guitar.
If you like jazzy kind of stuff, you might want to try out the Gibson.
However, I've always heard if you have bigger hands, you might want to go with the Fender. I have small hands, so I never encountered a problem.
I've been told that Fenders last longer, but I've never had an issue with Gibson. Then again, I don't beat my guitar.
