I highly recommend the book Super Baby Food. It outlines the nutritional needs of children and provides several recipes for different cereals you can make, as well as a host of other baby foods and at what age you can introduce them.

I did not completely follow the book (esp in making cereals) but did do an awful lot of it. It helped so much to know what a baby's tummy can handle at a specific age and when they are receptive to what types of food. I made up my own foods, froze them in ice cube like trays, and that is what my son ate - at the stages they recommend. I now have a little boy who loves grains, spinach, avacado, brussel sprouts, etc.... We have yet to find a food he will not eat - and I'm not exaggerating. I attribute his liking all types of food to the great start he got because of the book.

BTW, I have no ties to the book - just one happy mom who learned an awful lot and really appreciated the content. From some of the questions you have asked, I bet you will enjoy it as well.

blessings -

I speak from experience - I've made all of my son's babyfood (no preservatives that way) and I really wanted to make his cereal, too, especially since he eats so much of it.

I'll tell you this much - don't try it.

I got my recipe from www.whoelsomebabyfoods.com/. They said to cook it (steam), blend it, put it in ice cube trays and freeze (just like with babyfood). It has to be whole grain brown rice.

Long story short, rice was sticky, blender was ruined, and baby gagged.

Learn from my experience - it's not worth the time!!

Cook grain of choice, place in blender, puree. Freeze in ice cube trays, then package in a resealable bag for later use. Make it thicker as freezing makes things watery because it breaks down the cells.

OR buy a grain that is naturally small or already ground: oat bran, rice flour, etc.

Some blenders can grind uncooked grains.

However there is NO REASON ever to puree food for your baby:
