Some printer manufacturers make expiring ink cartridges. Many price their ink incredibly high, and then attack aftermarket ink manufacturers.

Do you know of any manufacturer who has reasonably priced ink, who is consumer friendly, and who doesn't attack competition with unjust lawsuits?

Also, a specific printer recommendation (for printing text documents with some color graphics -- not photos) would be great.

It must be Vista compatible and USB.

The following brands are off limits, for the reasons listed above: HP, Epson, Lexmark.

Since this question is pretty tough, I will be actively monitoring it and rewarding the person who gives the best answer.

I personally recommend new Canon printers. When browsing them, look for ink jets that have one black, one cyan, one magenta, and one yellow ink cartridge. This way when one color is low, you don't have to replace the entire color ink cartridge like other makes/models.

At this point is any thing compatible with Vista? Maybe you can read up on Vista and you will find your answer there. You can also reference slashdot or cnet web sites for answers.
