There are several "influential" rock groups that have been influential, but not really hit the top 10. Examples include great groups like- The Replacements, Husker Du, The Minutemen, and Mother Love Bone. Great great groups from the early 80's, except for Mother Love Bone, who were more from late 80's, early 90. Check them out. Also- another great group, but from UK, so they didn't hit it big in the states- The Jam. Aweseome guitar rock.
