For over a week, everyday, all I heard about was how poor crazed Britney Spears hacked her hair off! Who cares!? There are other (important) things I'd like to hear about on the morning (afternoon & evening too) news. What are your thoughts? Is it like this in other countries? Why are these mundane things so sensationalized?

I AGREE 100%
why the hell does this country focus so much on the "famous" people, the rich bitches who dont do **** with their money when millions of people around the world are literally starving to death.
it just goes to show how quickly and horribly country can go to hell.
we should have huge headlines about Africa & the war in Iraq & important things, not 3 weeks worth of 'anna nicole smith's body being fought over, where to be buried?'
thats BULLSH!T & i hate it!!

A lot of it is the media; reporters and journalists, etc. they are people, insecure, selfish, want to be noticed, want to have the 'best' article, story, etc.
There is number crunching going on, marketing, watching people's reactions to things, they want to maximize profits, make money off people.
They all want to make money so they can cover up their insecurities, get fake boobs, drive a Mercedes.
Give their families the best, plenty of them want to show off, feel powerful, etc.
Though I guess this isn't exactly answering the question.
I don't think it is amazing. I'm glad, she wants some change, she's going through changes as we all do. Some people though, are too afraid to change, especially something drastic, so they are pretty moderate.
I shaved my head, well several times, I've done it cause I've gotten sick of my hair. When I moved to Arizona, I had longer hair and everyone wanted to get my stoned, when I shaved it all the frat guys wanted to throw a baseball with me. Same moron, different colthes, but the celebrity thing, I don't know.
Though I said something, jokingly to a woman I know, as a joke, like I give a crap, and she answered me with that Britney must be freaking out. I thought she was kidding with me, but apparently not, and she is 50 something.
OK, do you mean why the heck does the media cover such crap and not real issues? Boils down to money I guess, sadly. Why are cigarettes sold? 1,000 chemicals in cigarettes? how does that go on?
I think the important thing is to make any difference you can, and don't lose sleep at night because you are too caught up in a world of crap. Hold the door for some older person and be nice to people. Think about loud motorcycles, they do that for attention. Why else would they be so loud? I've heard excuses but the bottom line is, 'Look at me! Vrooom, vRooom' Notice me!

I think they're sensationized because a lot of people that seem to "have 'everything' (i.e. fame, money, etc) have a lot of problems (way worse than your's). It's also a way for people that are 'not on top' to get attention. Bad attention is better than "no" attention. Lots of these 'starts' have big problems. The ones that stay out of the limelight - seem to be the happiest and most secure.

I am going to be totally honest-I keep up with all of the celeb gossip-the sad part is that I don't keep up with the war, terrorism, or anything bad-I cannot bear to hear about any of it, but for some reason or another, I can hear about Paris violating her probation. Pretty sad, I know, but that is the way society is.

Actually, it's like this all over the world. You know how in high school everyone is hung up on everything the popular people do?
Same thing. Only it's the older folks.

The more we feed into this crap, the more it will continue to happen. It's people buying the crappy magazines that fuel the fire. I say, let her continue her downward spiral, just don't feed the fire that stick's it in our face.
