I have a friend who is in need of some legal assistance. She and her child is abandoned by her Japanese husband and now living here in Manila. Can you recommend where she can go to seem some advice?

Unfortunately I have seen this happen more than once. She does have a claim if, and ONLY if she has documentation from the Japanese government of the marriage and birth of the child. If she does have that documentation she can go to the Japanese consulate/embassy and file an abandonment claim.

The bad thing is that these types of claims are not on the high priority list so the action will be very slow. Plus, just like any other place in the world, the deadbeat guy can dodge and hide until the claim just dies. It is worth a shot though.
