Our Founding Fathers would be ashamed at what we have imposed on ourselves.

Yep we are in debt because our "representatives" don't know what fiscal restraint is.

Perhaps you should take a closer look at the tax code. Yes, if you are a "middle income" earner you pay the lion's share of all income tax revenue. If you are an "upper income" earner, you have probably placed much of your income into tax shelters and pay close to nothing. If you are a large corporation, you will have placed all corporate earnings into tax defered investments and also pay nothing.

A "flat" tax would solve much of the inequality in our taz system and of course, forcing congress to stay within budgetary constraints would help even more. It is up to "we the people" to enforce our whishes. So far, we have been allowing te super rich and big business to make our decisions for us.

Poor baby, you and I pay one of the lowest tax rates on Earth and we complain. It really shows how spoiled we are. We want good roads, good schools, to fight an expensive war, and much more and somehow don't want to raise the funds to pay for all these goodies. I believe the founding fathers would understand that things are quite different than when they were in power. In those days roads were little more than wagon ruts through a forest. There was no public sewer system, no electricity, no phone no public fire department and only some public police departments. Public transportation as we know it didn't exist. Free education for most did not exist. Food safey did not exist. Water safety did not exist. Taxes were assessed on property and on certain imports such as tea and sugar that paid for some things but never would have been enough to pay for all the things government provides for us even without entitlements.

Almost is too nice of you. It's obscene. They seem to find
more ridiculous reasons to take our money every day & the
amount of politicians who are under investigation for
swindling is out of control.
If more money was spent on health care, poverty & education
& less for over blown salaries & pensions, there might actually
be less crime & more prosperity.

Paying taxes is not criminal. It is the persons with intentions which are criminal in nature is what that bothers.
