as a teacher, I can say yes, we do care. I know there are times when we're just generally beaten down by the system, and we probably take it out on you guys...sometimes, though you have to admit that students don't always make it easy. Behavior of students often causes more stress on us and we have more of a tendency to explode, especially when we feel we don't have administrative support.
That's why I left teaching, after only 5 years. I felt very close to many of my students and when I said I was leaving the classroom, many of them complained and cried, but I knew that many of them were putting on a show because in many cases, to me, it seemed they didn't want to learn...and I taught Spanish....what a bummer to sit through my class, I know many thought that. I got argued with everyday "why do we have to learn this...? We can't speak English well."
Some teachers care too much, and those are the ones who are at school until 6pm, and those are the ones that students usually complain about...then there are those who try to beat the buses out of the parking lot.....they may care, but they have children at other schools. And remember, teachers are people too...we don't necessarily enjoy grading mounds of papers and creating projects to bribe students to learn. Sometimes, that's how it feels. I was beaten down, but I tried to show I cared. The students didn't beat me down, it was the system.

All teachers are not uncaring, because the teachers in my daughter's school are fantastic -- even the kids like them! I can't think of a single teacher there that the kids don't like. I know this is not how it is at every school though. Most schools usually have a couple of teachers that seem to hate kids so much you wonder why they went into teaching. If your school has a lot of teachers like that, my heart goes out to you. Perhaps this could be a motivation for you yourself to go into teaching.
