What does it mean to have green poop in a breastfed baby? It just happened and has never been that color before. Usually it's just orangish or yellow? What could cause this? Or can it sometimes be just a normal thing??? Thanks for any help!!!!

Opening a diaper is like opening a present---you never know what to expect! Baby poo does change color, even if the child is only drinking breast milk. Maybe something you ate is getting incorporated into the milk and turning the color to green. As long as he isn't sick and it isn't diarrhea, don't worry too much. Heck, my daughter is on solid foods and I've seen a rainbow of poo colors. Wait until you get to experience that! LOL

Just remember that anything you eat with affect your baby's poop. It's actually normal to have a greenish yellowish color.....they go through stages of breaking things down which makes the colors so "odd".

If it is CONSISTANTLY green AND frothy it can be caused by an oversupply.

OR it can be caused by an infection that causes temporary irritation to the intestines which may or may not also cause TEMPORARLY lactose intolerance. TRUE lactose intolerance is incredibly rare and would cause failure to thrive at birth:

It is also common if you give your baby vitamin suppliments or solids.

Could be something you ate, or more likely it's an imbalance in foremilk and hindmilk. If you switch breasts too early, the baby gets mostly foremilk, and not enough fat to be balanced. Try to let them nurse longer at the first breast, and be sure to switch regularly.

Good luck, it's a wild ride but breastfeeding is worth it.
