The very best protection out right now is to NOT get a Windows Operating System because Windows is a virus magnet attracting 114,000 virii.
The best (Windows) antivirus programs will prevent about 99 % of the virii, meaning you are still vulnerable to over 1000 virii. Instead get open source software at www.kubuntu.org

I have used them all, from Norton to AVG to Mcaffee. Now Norton has some lil proggie within it that does some spying. Thats when I quit using it. I now use NOD32 and I truely believe its the best. It is the anti virus program that is used by the professional gamers like Fatal1ty and the sort. It has the smallest footprint, scans the fastest and uses Threatsense technology. Go here to check them out www.eset.com they havent had a machine infected in over 6 years and thats saying something. Good luck to you

Norton systemworks is great for computers I have been using this for many years and never had any virus's or problems using this program. I buy new ones each year as Norton systemworks always adds better things to make a computer stay safe and run fast.

Ad-Aware SE Plus is usually pretty cheap and SOO effective. The first time I ran it, I removed 1200 items of spyware, adware, and malware. Definitely worth the price. Highly recommended.
