What does it mean to have green poop in a breastfed baby? It just happened and has never been that color before. Usually it's just orangish or yellow? What could cause this? Or can it sometimes be just a normal thing??? Thanks for any help!!!!

could have been something you ate.. most likely totally normal.. food colorings in foods (like fruit snacks, cereal) etc. can cause green poop.

My baby used to have green poop also and it drove me nuts. We actually took her to a GI doc (also because she had mucous in her stool). He said green poop means it is just going through your system faster and the green color alone isn't necessarily a bad thing. I eliminated all cow's milk and cow's milk products (yes, the ice cream too!) from my diet and her poop went back to normal color and hasn't been green since (going on 6 months now). I would try eliminating the milk (at least for a week) to see if it helps! Good luck!

My son had this when he was a newborn and I breastfed him. Does it look like snot or mucus in it or any blood in it? If so it could be something he is allergic to that you ate. If not it could be very normal. My son had it a lot - he also broke out in excema at 2 months old and had a intolerance to dairy products. He had some colic too and once I deleted it from my diet he got better. How old is he? You could try eliminating dairy or nuts (they are very allergenic too) from your diet. If you are really concerned call your doctors office and speak to the nurse they can reassure you. Hope all goes well.

I've heard that green stools from a breast-fed baby are usually because of something you ate and can also signify that he/she may have a belly ache if accompanied with crankiness or fussiness.
