Well, if it starts on Monday, usually that first day is rather light, so a pad will work ok. But you need to get past the fear of using the tampons. The best way to do that is to carefully read the instruction page that comes with them, take you time and don't rush yourself. Remember, the vagina is designed to accomodate this, it's stretchy and you can't hurt yourself, the tampon won't get lost or anything. If you are very nervous and tense, your vaginal muscles will tense up and make inserting it much more difficult. I know it sounds stupid when you are nervous about trying something that didn't work out before, but please just try to concentrate on relaxing those muscles. Some girls insert them standing up with their legs spread slightly, others prefer to sit on the toilet. You'll find out what works best for you. Use a slender or slim tampon and also wear a mini pad for back up on your heavier days in case you can't change the tampon as often as you need to, you don't want to worry about it leaking. Sorry if this is too graphic for anyone reading this, but it's our bodies and it's a natural function. Never be afraid or ashamed to ask. If worse comes to worse and you just can't insert the tampon, do you have a close female friend or relative that can help you and show you what to do? Good luck, sweetie...things will be just fine!

Don't worry playing sports while you have your period is no big deal. I never use tampons I always use pads. Use pads, they're better. wear them with tight panties so that they stick and you don't have to worry about positioning them and you'll be set for track practice, or like you said, wear a tampon. Maybe it can't get in because you didn't get it in correctly. If none of these solutions work, then excuse yourself from track practice. Good luck explaining to your coach why you can't attend track practice!

if you are not flowing heavy, don't even try it. but if you are , use the smallest you can, the more absorbant the bigger it will be and harder to get right. use the kind with the plastic applicator, like playtex pearls. they are easier to use. put the lid down on the toilet and stand with one foot on the lid, knee bent and the other foot onthe floor. take a deep breath and relax, if you tighten up it will not work, insert as far as you can. this way you shouldn't be able to feel it when you stand up. if it isn't right, DON"T just pull it out this will hurt really bad, soak in the bath for a while to wet it then remove.
good luck

Lie on your back and bring your knees up to your chest. Try to insert it that way. Alternatively, while standing, bend right over with your legs shoulder width apart and bend your knees a little. These positions will line you up very well to achieve good insertion. Good luck!
