My favorite YA authors are Joan Bauer, Caroline Meyer, Margaret Peterson Haddix, Stephenie Meyer, Scott Westerfeld, Sonya Sones, Laurie Halse Anderson, and Sarah Dessen. Also Shannon Hale. I'm sure I'm forgetting some as well, but offhand those top my favorites list.
Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
What My Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
There are so many great books out there, if you want individual titles and descriptions, you should check out my blog:

In junior high I devoured every book I could get my hands on and I remember some of my teen favorites were:
1. Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen (she writes really nice stuff)
2. Whatever Happened to Lani Garver by Carol Plum-Ucci (it's a really, really sad book about a girl's frienship with a rebellious androgynous/genderqueer teenager who's new in her town. you get reallllly invested in the characters, they're very "real")
3. Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
4. Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty (both are about the same character and they're very-well written, hilarious, easy-to-get-into books about an average teen girl)
5. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky (told from a a male's point of view but anyone can really identify...deals with some harder issues facing teens)
6. Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger (ok, so not really a "teen book" in the way that some of the ones above are but it's told from a teen's point of view and it's a great read)
7. Go Ask Alice by Anonymous (it's worth it to read...you'll probably like it if you liked Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson)
8. Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier (I LOOVED reading this, it's really well written and lots of interesting stuff happens so I was glad it was long, the character is really easy to identify with, especially if you're an artist or feel seperated from the generation of your parents for any reason)
9. Weetzie Bat by Francesa Lia Block (really surreal book about this awesome punky group of people)
10. Feed by M.T. Anderson (first book that made me cry. I don't usually like books set in the future, but this is one is amazing. It's one of the best love stories I've ever read. Amazing amazing amazing. I love M.T. Anderson for writing a book that shows so much humanity and compassion)
11. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli (another great unconventional love story, and I love Spinelli for showing characters that are so unique)
12. The Nanny Diaries by Emma Mclaughlin (just a really fun book)
Well, there's plenty more, but those are just some I could remember off the top of my head. : )

You MUST READ the books by Sarah Dessen, they are PERFECT for young female adults..
You can look at them here:

I didn't really like "That Summer", but that's just my opinion.. My personal favorites were "The Truth About Forever" "This Lullaby" and, of course, the best one of hers, "Someone Like You"
