So I really need help doing a resume. For the past 6-7 years, I have held a lot of temp jobs, and a few short term regular jobs. This is REALLY affecting me getting a real job. I either hear nothing back, or I don't even get any response to my resume at all! I have never even wanted to be a temp....but since I can't find a real job...I always have to just give up after a few months and take the temp assignment.

HOW SHOULD I LIST THESE JOBS, INCLUDING BIG LAPSES IN EMPLOYMENT WHEN I WAS MOVING AROUND OR IN SCHOOL??? I have showed my resume to people I know that are good at resumes, and they saw it looks terrible!!

IF SOMEONE COULD EVEN SHOW ME AN EXAMPLE...I WOULD BE SO PLEASED!! THANKS!!!

You may want to consider using a functional, rather than a chronological, resume. This places the emphasis on your skills instead of the length of time at each job.
Do a quick google search and you'll find tons of samples.

There`s a good article that might help you out:

http://www.quintcareers.com/temping_experience.html

Some highlights of the article:

-List your experience based on the client companies you worked for, not the temp or staffing agency that hired you

-Shorter-term temp assignments can be listed under the temp agency.

-Multiple, short temp assignments can be grouped together, if appropriate.

-You may not need to list all or any of your temp jobs.

-A functional or chrono-functional resume may be the best approach for frequent temps.

-Make the most of your temp experience on your resume.

-Take advantage of your temping experience in interviews.

The article has clear examples and some more helpful links, hope it wil help you!!

Here's an entry level resume...

http://www.howtomakearesume-today.com/entry-level-resume2.html

If you worked at one temp service for a while, I'd consider that to be one job, regardless of how many different places you worked at.

Also, you could mention employers from the last three years.

Hope that help,
Robert

Did you work multiple assignments for the same temp company? If so, I would list only the temp agency as your employer, but list all the tasks you did on all the assignments.

i think of the 1st subject you could desire to do is call your Temp corporation and tell your counselor each and all of the matters which you're having at your modern project. they could have some guidance approximately your place which you don't understand approximately. additionally they could get you yet another project. yet another step could be to have a private convention which comprise your supervisor at your modern project. Ask him/her approximately your paintings overall performance and why you at the instant are not getting referred to as in for paintings. for my area, it's time to go away that business enterprise. After temping for a twelve months and a a million/2, you could desire to've been provided the everlasting pastime with the help of now. you're plenty extra effective and correctly worth extra advantageous than $6.50, besides!

As far as big lapses in employment dates, who said you have to put the dates in at all? What you do is put in the years and at the interview they are not going to ask for each month.
For example, the interviewer says, "Oh I see that you worked for xyz Company in 2005. How long did you work there?"
Well, all you have to do is say that you worked there a few months untill you were offered a more chalenging and rewarding opportunity to hone my skills..etc. So on your resume you put:

(teacher is used as an example):

1999 to 2002

ESL Instructor
XYZ COmpnay Inc.
23 Maple Street
Los Angeles, CA 9021

Teaching Assistant
James Harris High School
222 Main Street
Beverly HIlls, CA
