Well, first off the gen 2 eclipse is garbage. Be very careful if you decide to upgrade its performance. But thats not what you asked.

Is it turbo?
If so, use 20W50. A namebrand too, don't settle for some cheap junk. Some of the cheap oil you'll find, I wouldn't put it in a Yugo. Mobil 1 is pretty good stuff. There is this Japanese company that makes some VERY good oil, but I can't remember the name. Someone was mentioning it on a rotary site I visited a while back.

If its a non turbo you can still use 20W50, though 10W30 or 10W40 is cheaper. It should say in the owners manual.

Oh yeah, (gets on soapbox) Ahem, ALWAYS read your users manual with a vehicle. ALWAYS! (Gets down).
Well, help that was hopeful. :D Have a great day!

Call AutoZone and ask one of the people that work there. They can look it up in the computer, what kind, how much, etc. It's probably 10w-30, at 4 qts, but I'd go ahead and call and ask.

use what's recommended in the owner's manual. if you try synthetics on a high milage motor that's only been using regular oil, you have a high chance of developing leaks.
