If some on does pre-med and gets some sort of science major, and if for any reason they don't pass their MCATS and are unable to go onto medical school, what do they do?

What other pathways are open for them?

You can become a PA (Physician's Assistant) with 2 years of graduate school.. They've gained a lot of autonomy over family practice and general medicine recently as new medical graduates are gravitating towards specialty work. You can also become a NP (Nurse Practitioner).

There's also the option of a post-bacc program to raise your science and overall GPA, re-taking the MCAT, and re-applying to medical schools (it's really not as bad as people say it is to do it), and possibly applying to osteopathic schools and international medical schools as well. If you really want to be a physician, "settling" for being something else is going to make you a bitter, angry old jerk eventually. ^^;
