I think championships are way overrated, and I can't stand when someone mention championships when it comes to comparing players. Because every player doesn't get the same opportunity to play along side other good players. I think we as fans get to caught up on winning teams and forget about someones talent has an individual. Since someone have more titles doesn't mean they're better then the other guy. It just means the that guy with the titles was fortunate enough to play on a championship franchise(right place & right time).
Example:
Horry's 6 rings to Bird's 3, who's better?(Bird)
Sally's 4 or 5 ring's to Ewing's 0, who's better?(Ewing)
Kobe's 3 rings to Wade's 1, who's better?(Wade)
Russell's 11 ring to MJ's 6, who's bettter?(MJ)
H. Grant's 4 or 5 rings to Barkey's 0, who's better(Sir)
Haslem's 1 ring to Malone's 0, who's better?(Malone)
Pippen's 6 rings to Dr J's 1, who's better?(Dr.J)
Longley's 3 rings to Hakeem's 2, who's better?(Hakeem)

See my point!

OVERRATED!

Yes. I would rather go to the Hall of Fame and be considered a great player and get a huge contract and never win a championship, then be a role player on a championship team and never get paid. Plus it's hard to win a championship, to much value on being the best and not enough emphasis on playing the game to the best of your abilities. Theres nosecret to basketball the team with the best star ie Jordan, Magic, Shaq, Duncan, usually wins the title.

Having championships is not an overrated point for fans to cheer about.
Getting to the big dance, and losing -then bragging about it like it was a good thing - that is overrated.
You did not see the Buffalo Bills fans crying "we're #2!!" for four years. Plus, no team in the 21st century has lost the World Series and gone back the next year, so winning is everything when you get to the postseason. There is no such thing as a moral victory.

is this a baseball question? the reason that rings are measured is that if a player doesn't win a championship, his season's goal is not fulfilled. some players only won because of who was around them- Kobe hasn't won since Shaq left. at this point, however, you cannot say that D-Wade is better than Kobe, right now, yes, but Kobe's career is better. Anyway back to baseball- Ted Williams- 0, is the best example of a dominant player not winning, in this case becasue of a stupid (racist, later) owner

From a player's point of view, World Series rings are overrated. Many great players have not won World Series, not because of their lack of talent, but because they did not play for championship teams.

Craig Biggio is a Hall of Famer. Will anyone discredit him because he spent his entire career on a team that has never won a World Series?

In basketball, it is possible for one player to lead a team to championships. In baseball, the best player does not a World Series make, and because of this, you need to look at what a player did, not how weighed down his hand is.

Luis Sojo has three World Series rings, because he was the backup infielder for the Yankees during their three-year run. In those three years, he contributed about 40 runs and got three World Series rings.

Fair to Ken Griffey Jr, Carlos Delgado, Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodriguez, Vladimir Guerrero, Jason Kendall... all of which who have no rings? Can you compare them to Sojo?

A Championship is the ultimate goal. But, for a lot of teams, just getting there is an achievement worth noting!

Yankees-- winning world series is expected.
Phillies --- Division winning would be wonderful.
Kansas City - Winning division would be a miracle. To me.this would be a greater achievement than the Yankees winning the world series.

Not at all, u need to look at who u matched up. U put Russell and mj together, and pippen and dr. J, if u want to compare rings u need to put similar players together. for instence u could compare D-Wade to Lebron, and Russell to Chamberlin. U need to keep the comparisons w/in the era if u want to look at it.
