First, cut them back so you can't chew them.
Second, dip your fingers in toothpaste so that when you smell it, you are reminded NOT to bite them! This way they don't stink like hot sauce or something foul.
Third, wear gloves as often as you can.
Fourth, when you have the urge, take notice of what is going on around you so that you can begin to identify what exactly provokes it.
Fifth, replace the old bad habit with a good new one. When you do bite them, punish yourself. Make yourself with 10 push ups or 25 sit ups every time.
Sixth, floss and take good care of your mouth and then spoil yourself and get a nice manicure, so that you are doing something else that is good for you!

If you're really serious about quitting then you have to take drastic measures. Buy capzacin cream or gel ( used for sore muscles) at your local drug store & apply it to your fingers. Everytime you wash your hands, you'll need to reapply. When you put your fingers in your mouth to bite your nail, you will experience an awful peppery taste. This will not hurt you but it will stop you from putting your fingers in your mouth. Continue this until you've broken the habit & then enjoy your nice nails. Good Luck! PS: Do not rub your eyes with this on your fingers as it will make them burn.

They do make a nail polish designed to stop biting -- it has a horrible taste to it. But, if you don't want to spend the $, simply put Band-Aids on each tip of your fingers. You can't bite what you can't get to. :)
Hope this helps!

try wearing gloves, i know it probably sounds ridiculous but it's worked for some of my friends. Another thing you can try is just to keep your hands occupied, like if you're watching TV and you suddenly find yourself biting your nails, try knitting, it will keep your hands busy and away from your mouth. Even then, you might make a couple of good scarves you can use as gifts in the process.

Try clipping your nails as short as you can and trim them again every time they begin to grow. This way you have nothing to bite off. When you do find yourself trying to bite your nails repeat a phrase to yourself such as "I do not bite my nails that is a disgusting habit." Once you have lost the urge to bite your nails off you can stop cutting them so short and allow them to grow longer.

I've always bitten my nails. ALWAYS.I still do, and I can promise I bite them worse than you. My mom has tried jalepino (sp) pepper sauce on them, and all sorts of stuff.
One thing that Ive found that works, is get some acrilyc nails... beause that makes them grow twice as fast. Then take pre-natal vitamins, which will help them grow even faster (and even your hair). Once you do have the nail, DONT BITE IT OFF. That's my biggest problem. Lol.
Good luck! but try the pre-natal vitamins. They've been working for me.

Make yourself go a week without chewing on your nails. If you make it, reward yourself with a manicure. Once you see how great your nails can look, I doubt you'll want to bite them.

maybe you could buy that special nail polish that tastes horrible.
Or you can write on your nails in sharpie (if you put clear nail polish over it VERY CAREFULLY it lasts for a while): "DO NOT EAT ME"
(hey that's exactly ten.. cool). (Unless you don't look at your nails.)

Try chewing gum more often. Chewing gumb should keep you busy from biting your nails. Hope this work! =)
