There are no penalties as long as you are being 100% TRUTHFUL about the amount of unemployment you are receiving. In the event that you are not telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth then you are committing welfare fraud which in MOST cases is a serious felony punishable by jail time. Also you would have to pay back each and every single penny you received through fraud and your future benefits will likely be denied. DON'T CHEAT THE STATE THEY WILL CATCH YOU!

The penalties are 2 to 5 years in a federal prison. The crime is Fraud and if you don't report all of your income you can be charged with Fraud. Just tell the truth and you will be fine. I don't like that smartypants answer about democrats. Don't they always say democrats do nothing but lay on welfare. Hey dems love welfare to hear the republicans tell it.

I beg to differ with BarB.......you most certainly can receive assistance while you receive unemployment as long as you meet the income guidelines.

There are no penalties for receiving assistance and unemployment. There may be a lot of red tape and forms to file but if you are on the up and up, there are no problems. Just remember, you have to report and pay taxes on unemployment compensation.

There are tax ramifications, I can tell you from the time I was on unemployment after a company closing. they may make you take job training or see a gov. job counselor. I think that would be about it.

You will lose both benefits and will have to pay one of them back. There could also be an arrest and perhaps fine or jail. If you are collecting both, you are committing fraud.

There are no penalties as such, if your record is clean and you have no other derogatory remarks or spots on your credit you should be fine. Good luck.
