when people stereotype, they always use pimps as an example. don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning their behavior.

Because there are many more pimps out there than madams. Madams are more involved in the high-line escort services of which there are very few. Pimps are in every large city. Why are you asking anyways? I think they are basically two different things. Pimp is also a more general term. You could even say that the NFL is pimpin young black males and making money off of them.

Because pimps are POPULARIZED, and their "culture" is shown to be an envious lifestyle in today's popular media. Look at the rapper types who portray the money and things they got from supposedly being a pimp.
You can thank the rap industry nearly singlehandedly for the reason you hear more about pimps.

Simple: 'Political Correctness' It is the worlds oldest profession and that is very heartbreaking to know that. Pimps generate better ratings for the media. It is far too controversial to make a spectacle out of a 'Mad dam'. Society in general is more tolerant of 'prostitutes' than they are of the animals who run the opposite side of valley. Seeing an African American getting busted on National Television is how entertainment is being marketed to all of us. The media only lets you see what they want you to see and the Government are the silent partners. A group called 'Frozen Ghost' wrote a song with the lyrics: 'show me what should I see, make my mind up for me.' That is why they always show more 'black' pimps than 'white' Mad dam's being taken into custody; America loves to see a Black Man in Chains.

What do you mean by "madams"? Because men have egos and they try to make themselves look the best out of all the other men so they say they are pimps, and women don't in general have egos like men do.

For the same reason, you hear more about street level dealers than about drug cartels. Or inner city kids with guns and nothing on gun runners. Pimps are low level and Madames are considered to have upper echelon clientele. It's a double standard. A whore is a whore if you ask me.

Pimps usually conduct their business on the street and tend to rule their girls with intimidation and violence. Madams usually conduct their business in an establishment and rule their girls with threats of unemployment and financial suppression.
