is Britain british?
Well in light that you have neglected to provide a scope for this question we would have to assume that YES britain is stil british..
why? Because it is still britain - and as such the pronoun of Britain is British.... Go figure... is the culture still british - yes pronoun makes its second appearance...

At the end of the day - however the culture/people evolve they will always be inherently "British" as that is the name of the area - unless the French invade again then they may rename the area and then we can say they arent british by Frankish..

ok?

Give the people on here a scope if you want a different answer....

The answer I would give is No, Britain was Never British, never will be.

As the races of Great Britain and the Western Isles are not of one race, creed or colour, then it would be impossible to place the word British on them. Don't forget you are talking about 4 main countires and at least 7 dependancies with the term Britain.

In an historical sense, or a philosophical sense?

If you mean, is Britain still populated by British citizens, then yes.

If you mean do they still have the same culture as the Britain of 100 years ago, then no - all cultures change over time.

Well yes - Britain is still British - but only in the sense that its the name of the island that comprises the nations of England, Scotland and Wales under the political state of the UK.

Yep - The thing that you have to remember is that Britain is a mongrel nation. We have had loads of 'foreigners', and I'm talking way back, Vikings, Normans, Romans as well as more recent, come to our country and add their own bit to it.

So the definition of what is British keeps evolving.

I would like to say that Copper gave a really good answer and I agree with her. Britan is a multi racial/cultural society and we should be happy abput that and grateful that we can live in a country where that is (generally) accepted.
