Just to clear this up, all contraception prescriptions are 100% FREE in the UK. This will apply regardless of what pill you are on, how long you are on it, how big your prescription is (6m, 12m), how old you are and whether you are a student or working, etc.

You can telephone NHS 24 or your doctor to confirm this.

If you want to start the contraceptive pill you will have to see your GP and will get asked some health questions (to determine what sort of pill you should be on).

Good luck.

Contraception is free in the UK and you should not get charged for this and you dont have to go to the GP to get this either. You can go to your local family planning clinic and they will give you the same options as your normal doctor. I dont know of anywhere that charges you for this - I have never had to pay for any contraception - I have used the Pill, Depo-Provera injections and the Mirena Coil and these have all been provided F.O.C.
