The moon's name is "Luna," which is Latin. It also has a Greek name, "selena." There are numerous other names in other languages.

But Luna is most common; hence "Lunar eclipse," or "Lunar module."

The moon does have a name! It is called Luna after the Roman Goddess of the Moon. Earth is actually called Terra named after the Roman Earth Goddess. We are not earthlings, we're Terrans.

You know, I have been really worried about that same thing for a long time. So this evening I took the time and trouble to write a letter to NASA and tell them that I decided to name our moon "Boseephus" in honor of that great country singer.

So, from now on you can call the Moon by its real name,
Boseephus.

Kind regards,
Your friend,
Zahbudar

It used to be called it but people confused it with too many other things.
So we decided to call it the moon so we would know what it was we were talking about.
If we had caller it Filbert it could have been confused with some other nuts.

it does its called "moon" ( in English) if it didnt have a name we would call it a "satellite" because technically thats what it is. the reason we call other satellites in our solar system moons is because its easier for people to interpret them as so instead of calling them satellites.
