Bernie Williams has been a great player for 10+ years...but he's also proven to be a great man and role model as well. If he retired today I'd say he's had an excellent career and he should go down in Yanks history as one of their best centerfielders.

First of all the Yankees can fill Bobby's slot with players that can get the job done. Also let's remember that the Yankees have been very good to Bernie over the years. He has earned 100 million dollars playing for the Yankees. I, for one would hate to see Bernie wearing another uniform other than that of the Yankees. It is possible that the Yankees could keep him in reserve just in case something else happens to the roster. It's possible but not probable. If this is the case I hope he retires and let the Yankees honor him for an outstanding career. I'm sure they will retire his number and will become part of the great Yankee legacy.

I have followed Bernie's career since he was a 17 year old in the Gulf Coast league in '86, so it will be tough to see him gone.

I think he should be on the Yankees as a reserve, but they chose to carry 12 pitchers, which means there is no room for him. Bernie did have a decent year last year, but he is not the player he was. He's not a good outfielder anymore, his power is gone, and he's not a great hitter anymore. The Yankees are choosing to keep Melky Cabrera as the fourth outfielder as he has much more to offer than Bernie right now, and he's 16 years younger. I think that Bernie may come back during the season at some point, but right now, there is just no room to carry him on the roster.

Bernie Williams merits a plaque on the recent Yankee Stadium. after all he had performed for the Yankees they are going to be classless in the event that they do no longer honer him with a 'Bernie Williams' day on the recent stadium. Jack

Bernie Williams was a good ballplayer, never a superstar that gained more fame because he played in NYC.

He needs to accept that he is not the same player he was 7 to 10 years ago. If he really wants to continue he needs to find another team. The Yankees owe him nothing.

Bernie is a great player, he became the yanks first fulltime canter feilder since Mantle, he solidifed a great team. How the yankees are treating him is bullshit. He desereves a spot on the team and they know it. if they dont want him on the roster offer him a player coach position. He needs to be there.

I think that if Bobby Abreau's injury is more severe than anticipated, there may be an opportunity, however slight, for Bernie to return to the pinstripes in 2007. (very slight chance) If not, I believe that he will retire from the game of baseball

bernie was GREAT for the yankees but its time he retires. he gave all he could and contributed greatly to several championships but younger players can do so much more (melky for one) why keep playing as an under-average player ?
thanks 4 the memories

p.s. JACK HOFF is an idiot

I feel bad for him. Everyone talks about how "classy" the Yankees are? Please. One of the true gentleman of the game, a proud player, and the Yankees let him go with the days garbage.

I hope he signs with another team and crushes the Stinkees every time he plays against them.
