The dogs 'male bit' is barbed. Imagine an umbrella, it can go in a hole easy enough but coming out is a little more tricky. That's what happenes with dogs when they mate so they get stuck for a while until the barbs relax and it can slip out. Apparently this happens to ensure the female dogs success of pregnancy. Ain't nature neat!

Breeding........... The male Swells which holds him inside the female... this is called his "knot" After ejaculation the Knot will slowly decrease in size and he will be able to slide out. Can take as little as a few minutes, or much longer. This is normal.

The male can get swollen inside of the female from all of the blood flow to his genitals. Try a hose.
