I'm thinking about trying out for Drum Major for my high school marching band but i need help. i kno u need to kno the scales, tempo, and marching skills but what else is there to learn. I kno there's more to it then that. Plus i need to kno how i can earn respect from the other band members. My section sees me as jus' another 'throw pillow' to blame and yell at. Being in the Drumline really helped me but it also took its toll on me. No one cared for my opinion or how i felt, which i expected as much. My section leader always gave me the excuse that she has senority and "experience" so i had to do what she said. Now that i'm going to be a junior i think its time i raise up and take a stand. I'm a very disaplined person and always ready to work. I also need tips on how to make my personality stronger so that people won't look down on me and treat me like garbage. In other words, i need help on standing up for myself. Plz help me in any way u can. Thank You!!!

you should be out going and get to know band members. if you see someone know doesnt know many people, get to know them or introduce them to toerhs.
good leadership skills.
dont make it seem like others have to listen to you because you are drum major, so dont boss them around, it'll just make them hate you.

Have a strong right arm. There is often a baton or something of the sort that you must carry and hold up and down. Have a loud, clear voice. You must be able to conduct.
