Maybe you should do your project on Equine Therapy. You could show how horses effect peoples lives- especially the disabled- for the better.

You have some great ideas already from many of the above posters. My recommendation would be to pick something that's very specific and do a lot of in depth information about it. It could be something like shoeing horses. Right now there's a huge surge in barefoot horses, but this movement doesn't suit all horses. You could discuss why shoes are necessary for some horses, why some can go barefoot, and the various types of shoes out there for correcting physical defects and enhancing the performance of equine athletes. You could also do something totally different. For instance, I've worked with a few Akhal-Tekes recently. They're a rare breed from Russia that was nearly doomed to extinction and had to survive a perilous crossing of that country to survive. Very interesting story, really, and the breed is on its way to recovery. Or you could focus on a specific discipline that interests you and analyze how the sport is taught, judged, and what its purpose is. You have many options, pick something that really interests you.

go over diesese affecting a part of the horse, like the hoof has thrush and abceses and go over what they come from and make a model of a horse foot. That is what a friend of mine did and she passed with flying colors. Also the took the horses hoof and took a picture of it and then added things to it on a computer to show. I have only seen her do this topic before so i think that it is pretty unique as far as that goes. But you could also go over the birth of a foal from the start and then to birth, that would be interesting and a really good picutre filler for the poster. Oh... and one last one the color genetics for a horse. What colors in a horses father and mother make the baby its color. You could do tons of diferent colors on the horses and learn a lot to i have never seen anyone do that before hope i helped.

RE:
Horse project ideas?
I'm doing a poster project for 4h about horses. Last year I did Quarter Horses and I need an Idea for this year. It can be anything that has to do with horses and I want it to be a unique topic. I'm aiming not to do a breed this year.
thanks

How about an unusual sport played on horse back, like horse ball. It's a great sport, a cross between Polo and football!
Check out these links for information:

You could give your report on horse nutrition. What is a good & bad body condition score, how they are scored, and what type and amount it takes to maintain a healthy body weight in breeding horses, pleasure horses, working horses, etc. Good Luck!

You could do a project on the different types of riding like English, Western, and Dressage, as well as the different type of tack each one uses. That could be interesting and would have good pictures for a poster. Good luck!

I think a good project subject would be on the pros and cons of equine sports. Show why things like racing and such are good and why they are bad. Ex. Racing is profitable, but costs horses lives.

here are some ideas:
-hunter (history etc)
-jumping (history, how to do it, etc)
-dressage (do you like it? why? does it looks like a smooth event? history etc)
-why horses were brung from the wild for humans to ride
-lameness in a horse (affects, things to look out for, treatments etc)
-HH (what does 16.4hh mean? how is it mesured[its mesured in inches... 4inches=1hh], what does hh stand for[hands high], maybe if you can find why they called it hands and not inches.)
If you would like some help in your riding or need horse advice/help i would be happy to give you a hand.
