Old Mercedes Parts

Yes, yes, and yes. The merger really didn't have much effect on the Mercedes end, so pricing didn't change much. It used to be in most cases the older the car, the cheaper the parts. Not true here. You could buy a junked out Benz from the 70's and still pay through the nose. If you're thinking of buying one, no matter how old, be prepared to pony up some $$$.

I would guess that none of those who've answered have ever owned a Mercedes. The cost of parts is not excessive. but shop rates can be, especially if you are using dealer service. Recent Benz's have not lived up to the brand's reputation of rugged reliability, so you can expect more trips to the shop.

They cost about the same as any other car. Dealer parts can be pricey unless you get a shop discount, but there are plenty of independent dealers on the web where you can get good prices. The expensive things have Bosch labels on them, including the climate control computer, the EFI system, and the cruise control computer. Newer models also have computer modules for the seats, windows, and mirrors. Fortunately the eletronic stuff is very robust. Here are a few online sources, you can check out prices:

Hello, The older the car gets the more expensive the parts get, why they do this is because they want you to sell the old ones and purchase newer ones. For example a ECU computer for a S500 W140 can be approximetly $4000-$6000.

Hope that helps

Dodgeman is right. Some are, some aren't. I replaced a radiator on an S-class for about Australian $40 more than one for a local Holden (a GM car) with a similar size motor a few years ago. It was the genuine part. OTOH a fuel distributor will make your eyes water. Transmission rebuilt -about the same as for a Holden.

Well, Generally Benz parts are still quite expensive except for the ML series models. The ML parts are 60% cheaper that other places. Try the link below. or E-Bay. I just install one a few weeks ago. great price.

Never buy from dealer. There are several good places to shop, and know ,they are not that high.
Chrysler only hurt them by using V6 engines, instead of the straight 6,that were so good.
