Red Wings did well if Bertuzzi can make it back, they did not have to give up as much as a lot of the other teams did to get a player.

The sabres have just by getting another healthy body in their line-up. Zubrus is a solid player at both ends of the ice, which this teams needs going into the playoffs. Buffalo also moved an overpriced back up goalie that would have left during the summer anyway. In doing so, they gave up an underachieveing center (Juri Novotny) and a 1st and 4th round picks for 3 minor league defensemen and Zubrus. Keep in mind, Zubrus plays with Afinogenof over the summer for the last few years and would be a great addition to his line when he returns from a broken hand.
Nashville did their part by nabbing Forsburg from Philly, and didn't lose too much in the process. The problem is is that he's not yet jelled to the point of being a difference maker, on a team that is suddenly injured in the middle(Sullivan, Legwand, Arnott) He is alway an injury risk, but can make a difference in the playoffs, when healthy.
The Red Wings made a deal for Bertuzzi, and it has me confussed. Here is a guy who has potted 1.....1 goal all year for the Panthers(He has been injured) and the Wings take a chnce on him??? I think they were doing great without him and are flying under the radar, as everyone out West is alreay to hand the Cup over to the Ducks or Predators. Veteran teams can kill yonger ones in the playoffs. If Hasek gets hot and stays healthy....watch out. The Ducks picked up Brad May....that's it. I guess if you feel that you are all set and that your team is fine....O.K.
My question is....how in the hell is this guy still playing? Is he a "tough guy" a "goon" or enforcer?? Is he a banger who scores tough goals on the forth line????
I was at the game when he was with the Sabres, and scored a goal that will always be remembered in Sabres history. Ray Bourque fell on his *** and May skated around him and beat the goalie. It was in OT and clinched the series. The town went nuts. As a result, he has been living off that lone moment for the rest of his career. Next to Overrated in websters dictionary....is a photo of Brad May. I guess the Ducks felt that they didn't have enough goons on squad already. It will be interesting to see how they playout and how they do in the playoffs. Atlanta, Pittsbugh and the NY Islanders are all team that made sugnificant deals, but are back in the pack in terms of overall talent come playoff time. Anyone of them could upset a higher seed in the first round, but I don't think that anyone that they brought in will have anythin to do with that. The Islanders are playing well and have made great moves to improve their chances. I just don't think thay have what it takes to last in a 7 game series against a New Jersey or Buffalo.

Bertuzzi is overrated and so is Ryan Smyth. The most underrated trade is the San Jose Sharks aquiring Bill Guerin. That trade makes them a serious stanley cup contender. Now the sharks have tons of talent between, Marleau, Thornton, Guerin, and Cheechoo. Not to mention Guerin, Thornton, and Calder all played together in Boston so there is a previous chemistry there. Look for them to go far in the playoffs and push Anaheim and Nashville hard for the West birth to the Finals

San Jose's acquisitions of Bill Guerin and Craig Rivet.

The Sharks already had a potent offense with Thornton, Cheech, Marleau, Michalek, and the list goes on. Now, they more than solidified their offense and have made 3 scary lines even more absurd. They definitely have one of, if not the best, group of forwards in the league. SJ had a very suspect group of defensemen. They are young, very talented, and aggressive but lacked a major component required on successful playoff teams: experience. Craig Rivet easily upgrades the defensive corp by providing the leadership and experience to go along with the experience of Hannan and McLaren and the talents of Erhoff and Carle. Guerin and Rivet will fit in just nicely and complement the rest of the team helping SJ to a very successful playoff run!

hands down the sharks and the pens

sharks well the guerin trade was nice and unexpected, not really neccessary but we gave up nothing for him, compared to what thrashers gave up for keith which i could believe they got robbed. but our d-fense was somewhat too young and it started showing late in the season, rivet will add much needed experience to take the load off of hannan and big mac ad let them be more free to play. erhoff and carle and i cant believe how awesome vlasic is doing especially at 19 come on folks p;aying d is the hardest position imo and at 19 he is doing it very well but we needed a veteran leader an rivet was just that and now with gueirn we are a scary team going into the playoffs

penguins- they needed to protect their fowards and laraque is just that now whoever they play will think twice before trying to punk sid or malkin or staal. great move, second roberts awesome veteran leadership for a young team and he is clutch as they come and can provide grit and prescene with sid. this team is ready to make some damage come playoff time, only thing i am not sure of is their goaltending. fleury is doing good but has flopped around alot so im not sure hopefully he can pull it toghether.

Although I'm an Av fan I think the Atlanta Thrashers did the best with the acquisition of Zhitnik, Tkachuck, and Dupuis adding on the the already amazing Marion Hossa, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Eric Belanger with Lehtonen in net, now thats a pretty powerful team!

Even though I'm an Avalanche fan, I think that Nashville improved the most from the most recent trades. Nashville is already one of the league's best teams and they acquired a great play-maker with Peter Forsberg. Even if he isn't 100%, opposing teams will have to account for his play-making ability. Roughly translated, this means that other Nashville players will be left "more open" to make plays. I don't think that Peter will make a huge difference on the stat sheets, but his presence will free up other players to take advantage of other team's weaknesses.

I agree with many of the answers here already ... San Jose did the best job at the deadline by getting Guerin. And they didn't give up as much as Atlanta did to get Tkachuk from St. Louis. Guerin is the better player right now.
