i have noticed that many people ask questions that they think as philisophical but no one thinks outside of the box, which is what philosophy is all about. people seem to quote the bible and express there pre conceived notions on life but both of the thoughts have no basis in philosophy whatsover. philosophy is free thinking not what they have been told to be true. i have also noticed that no one ever asked REAL questions about philosophy. its all very simple and cliche questions such as "what is love" or "what is the meaning of life" there is nothing original. yet nobody brings up issues such as external world skepticism, existentialism, dualism, nihilism, or any thing pertaining to any REAL epistemilogical philosophy. why do you think this is?

I think there are 2 reasons: First, philosophy is the search for the truth, as the Unified Field Theory is for scientists. Second, people ask such questions because they're idiots.

On the one hand I can sympathize, on the other your exaggerating a tad. 'people seem to quote the bible and express there pre conceived notions on life but both of the thoughts have no basis in philosophy whatsoever.' 'Both' of the thoughts? Two thoughts? I think you have slightly under measured thought in religion. Philosophy and religion are indistinct from one an other, they are essentially the same thing as one is a reflecting for the other. The whole aim of and for philosophy is that others may benefit from that wisdom gathered. If a person evidences lack of it, that is work for us. If you complain of the work, then take a holiday.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

Philosophy is a very difficult, very misunderstood subject.
There are so many different areas of study within the guise of philosophy.
I know enough to be able to answer a question or two...but not enough to be able to pose a question that would interest those who study philosophy. I feel as though this may be the case for a good amount of people on this forum.
Also, please remember...philosophy must start at the very basic thoughts of those who wish to learn it. If the younger ones in here...the teens who are trying to understand, post simple question, then give them due credit for even having tried! For them, it is a learning experience as well as a forum to have a bit of fun on!
I'm sure if you posted a "real" question, you would attract those who study philosophy, and would get the answers, or arguments, you seem to be feeling are lacking.

I have also noticed a great deal of cross-over between religion and philosophy... and I do not believe they are indistinct from one an other.

People can have a philosophical discussion about religion, but discussions that end in "Because that's what the (insert religious manual of your choice) SAYS" are not philosophy.

Proselytizing belongs in the Religion forum. Philosophy is for folks who want to learn what else is out there to know.

Any question could pertain to Philosophy, depending on how you perceive the question in congruency to the reality or truth behind the idea. I see questions being asked a lot of times like "What is the meaning of life?" for me, it will take me forever to answer the question if i direct my point of convergence to the philosophy that signifies the meaning of life, unless I want to be gullible and look up directly the meaning of life from the dictionary.

First because a lot of people don't really understand the difference between philosophy, sociology and other humanity fields. Second, their questions are real enough for them.

Define "REAL"...from a phenomenological perspective, reality is that which is phenomenally real and unreality is nonexistent...if the questions exist in Y/A Philosophy, then they are real questions.
