My driver's side window starting acting up after a recent cold snap.
When I tried to lower the driver's side window on a freezing day, the motor just spun. The next day the window came down--as if it slipped of it's track and just slid down into the door. It won't go back up. I think the motor is fine because I can hear it cycle. Can I fix this myself? Thanks.

You will have to partially take the inside door panel off to look at the track. Probably there is a bracket to hold the glass, with a hole in it, and a matching hole in the glass. It is usually held with a nylon nut and bolt, or snap fitting, that is probably broken. This bracket probably rides on a roller. You can pull the glass up, and hold it in place with just the roller, but only if you don't want to lower it again. Lower it, and it will fall inside the door again. So, if you want it to go up and down, you have to find a replacement for the nylon fitting. Don't be tempted to use a regular nut and bolt, you will probably crack the glass.

You didn't say what kind of car you had... all windows are different. Some run on cables, and if this is the style, you will need to replace the complete assembly. The odds of it falling off track are slim, unless it was loose initially.
It's a real pain in the rump to do most door work, but if you are game... take the door apart and check it out. You can always have a mechanic finish it up.... keep all the parts for reassembly.

yes you can fix it if your handy and have metric tools to take the door panel off and reconnect the glass to the regulator. The glass has pulled out of the regulator, you didn't say what kind of car it is but a lot of these new cars use a squeeze track to hold the glass in the regulator and if the bolts weren't tight enough the glass pulls out of the squeeze track.

you dont say what type of vehicle you have, but it sounds like you will need to replace the regulator and depending on the model of vehicle you have you may have to buy the entire assembly with the motor installed. some regulators are bolted in and others are pop rivet. good luck, take care to remove all the screws from the door panel and careful on the window controls and wiring.

It probably just slid off the track. If you are fairly mechanically capable, you can remove the interior door paneling to see what is going on. You can just place it back in the track and you are good to go. Good Luck

drive gear is most likely sheared and catches some time s !
Tahe off the door panel and see if it turns by hand . If it does put a nail in the pin hole if not check the wire connections

The same thing happened to me. Only try to fix it if you are handy. It sounds like you need a new window regulator. Good luck and I hope it doesn't rain!
