I had just bought my grad dress but found out recently that the principal is not allowing strapless dresses. Instead of buying a new one (after spending over $150 for the one I planned to wear) I'm just going to use my experience in fabrics to make a new one. I made the dress but I have to change the colour of the fabric to black; sounds simple but every store I search for fabric dye in I can't find any. Anyways if anyone knows a store which sells fabric dye or knows any other substitute for fabric dye help me please! Thanks

Grocery stores, including Wal-Mart carry Rit brand fabric dye, kind of in the dept where you find laundry detergent. You can also find it at the chain craft stores like Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Fabric stores like Hancock's and JoAnne's have it, too. Why don't you just sew some black ribbon straps on the dress you have? It wouldn't be strapless any more.

go back to the store that you bought the fabric from...they should be able to tell you.....if not walmart sells black RIT dye....dont know how well it will work for a nice dress though...check out ritedye.com
If you do use your washing machine to dye your fabric, make sure when you are done that you run the machine empty with some bleach to help clean out the excess dye (from experience!!!!)

Walmart, or any store like wallyworld, the thing is these types of dyes, do not usually do well on anything but cotton/or large % of cotton. I would check out specialty stores or go to like a dry cleaner. They dyes that are used to dye shoes would have to work, you might try looking at shoe dyes, it may be able to be used for this??
I do have one suggestion: Why not add some straps to this dress you've already bought? There are zillions of ways to make gorgeous
straps.
Good Luck!! email me if you find the dye, PLEASE , I use dyes alot.

if you are having a problem finding it locally, i mean if they are out at the stores by you, here are some that i found. good luck. I hope i was able to help you. There is more of a range for you to choose from as well, other than RIT.

wal-mart or target.

it's called Rit.

You can dye it in a pan over the stove or a washing machine.

I recommend going to a cheap laundry mat and washing it in the laundry machine. I prefer the liquid dye in the bottle as compared to the dry dye in the packet.
