My street, like many these days, has a large percentage of properties owned by buy-to-letters. With tenants coming and going every six months, people are less likely to have a natter over the garden fence for instance.

Does this correlate with the rise in crime, lack of community spirit, fear to go out at night.

And don't just blame the immigrants, they have to private-rent too!

I think you mean "absentee landlords" and not private landlords.

I own a two unit apartment, live in the lower unit and rent out the upper unit. I'm also active in the local neighborhood association.

Renters tend not to care about their neighborhood as they don't see themselves having a longterm interest in it.

I don't see what that has to do with landlords though.

The prices go up and up all the time and I couldn't afford to buy even if I wanted to. I'm on my third rented accommodation in 3 years and I've barely got to know any of my neighbours. There is an identical flat to mine in my building up for sale. Nothing special, not a particularly nice area. Asking price=a cool quarter of a milion! My landlord lives abroad.

Historically in Britain,Landlords have been among the worst scum ever, and nothing much changes, because they are still crooked ratbags, they would rent out their own children for the right price

I dont think its just that, but as a society we are less trusting of one another nowadays, less likely to want to get involved and stick together etc. Most people live in their own little bubble and dont want to share it or their time with other people. Its a sad way to be really isnt it.
