Separation is different from divorce in that if you are just separated, you are still married. Usually a period of separation is used in trying to reconcile the marriage. As for not dating, there are no laws against dating while separated anymore then there are laws against dating while married. If you are separated and wanting to reconcile, dating wouldn't be the smartest thing.

Not unless you make it a legal separation where you can date other people, but working towards the process of getting a divorce. People do separate when they are married, but legally they are still married, and for morals and self respect people should date after the divorce.
People don't take them vows seriously and they are very much serious. Or else why all the legal stuff in the end when a marriage goes wrong! People are so desperate to be with married people, to me it's a sick thing, loose women without any self respect. Ignorant men, women take serious, a cheating partner, it's called bad KARMA! What comes around will go around! To women it's a power trip, same thing different look, and the grass isn't all that green after all. But yeah I hope I was able to help you out! Just had to speak my mind...

Divorce is legally ending the marriage. Separation when a married couple is not living together, and a lot of times, they will get divorced.
People can date when they separate, but technically they're still married, so they probably shouldn't.

Separation doesn't necessarily mean that spouses can't date. My parents have been separated (but won't divorce!) all of my life. Both have had meaningful relationships with other people in that time.
The terms of the separation will determine whether it's "all right" for the people to date or not.

separation : You just move into separate house and live separately in hopes of rekindling the relations ship
divorce: the marriage is over and no chance of surviving the divorce makes it final leagaly where everything owned by the tow people is divided between them and the divorce paper washes out the marriage license

seperations is when they are still married, but not living together. Sort of a pre-divorce. Many couples get back together, instead of divorcing.
Divorce is final. they are not married anymore and can go their own seperate ways.
As for the dating part. I guess that is to each his own.
My husband has a whore, I prefer to wait until the divorce is final before I move on to someone else, because i still respect my marriage vowes, even though it is so obvious that he does not. I was not raised to cheat on someone (i consider this cheating), and to finish with one before starting with another.
Besides, i could not respect myself for being with someone while i was still married, nor could i respect the guy that i was with for fooling around with a married lady.

If you separate you have to work out if it is just for a little while or if it is for good. If is for good, then go ahead and date but if you are not divorced then you will not be able to remarry someone else.

You could but shouldn't date someone if they have separated from their spouse because they are still legally married. Consider them unavailable.
Plus, IMHO, i wouldn't date someone who's recently divorced either...they need time to get over the baggage.

Separation is moving out and away from your spouse, whom you are still married to, which is why you cannot date.
Divorce is dissolving the marriage and legally making you both single and free to date.
