well, if your invite said your name only - Its only you!
(and what fun is that if you only know the bride & groom)
If your invite had your name & guest - then you can bring a guest.
However, the bride/groom may not know you are dating someone so they only put your name....SO, if you really want to bring a guest - call the bride & groom (only if they did not state guest on the invite) and ask them if its OK....
Good Luck & Have fun!

The invitation should say you "and guest". Otherwise, don't bring a date. They may be having a sit down dinner and that plate, if a plate and food are available for unexpected guests, will cost them extra.

Call the bride and ask if you can bring a guest (if the reception is buffet style, it may not matter much, if at all).

If the answer is no or if she's struggling to find a polite way to say no, then take a hint and decide if you're prepared to make new friends or acquaintances and/or just willing to go and wish her well and have a good time regardless. There may very well be other singles (male and female) you could meet.

Make sure you are invited with a date first. If it does not specify You AND GUEST on the invitation (usually on the envelope) then it is considered extremely rude to try to bring a guest. If it does specify a guest, then bring someone you know you will have a good time with, since the bride and groom will be pretty busy for the whole of the reception. Otherwise, go by yourself, meet some cool new people, and have a good time!

Was your invitation address to you and a guest or was it only to you?

If you are in a serious long-term relationship, it is very acceptable for you to bring a date. However, if you aren't and this is a intimate affair, I would recommend that you do not.

Weddings are meticulously planned and costly so I would really reconsider the importance of a date.

If the bride is good at planning, you most likely be seated next to other guests in your same situation. This is definitely a great way to meet new people.
