Does it put words on your cd directly from the computer or do you need a printer or something like that? And do you need special discs, if so where can i get them?

you flip the cd over and it burns a ----> grey scale <----- (no colors) image on the disc. first you need a light scribe drive and you need to buy special lightscribe discs (go to wal-mart or comp usa) One down side, if you use light scribe a lot the laser of your drive will get worn out 300% faster

If you get a lighscribe burner then you can use lightscribe discs to laser a graphic right on the top side of the cd...takes about 15 min by default but after the initial frustration with the low contrast you'll end up installing a plugin that will extend the burn time to about 30 min.

More of a novelty than anything else but if you got the time to sit there burning cds it isn't all that bad. The lightscribe discs usually cost a lot more but I usually only use one on rare occasion.

Supposedly color lightscribe is on the way but haven't found any firmware updates for that yet

Yes, you need special CDs that support LightScribe. I don't know how it works though.
