No, they're not emo. They've described their music as violent pop rock music. Besides, their new album deals a lot with death, but it's also about redemption and moving on, and the music that is labeled emo today is basically the opposite of that, being hopeless and having no way to carry on with life.
So, no, I don't label them emo, but I know that a lot of people do!

MCR isn't emo, you are correct. Finally someone with some sense. Emo isn't short for "emotional" Its short for emotive hardcore, that has originated in the 80s and died out in the 90s. So there is no such thing as AN "emo" emo is music. Not a person. Plus the guys refer to them as "violent pop/rock music" like the girl above me mentioned.

No of course not! I love my chemical Romance! They're one of my favorite bands. I'm not the kind of person that people think would be into rock and alternative. All my friends were really suprised when they found this out. Because I always wear all these bright colors and dressy tops. But its good to be different. Who cares what other people think?

Definately not screamo, i think their last two albums were pretty emo, but if you listen to their newest albu and then something like hawthorne heights (definate emo band) you'll be able to tell the difference. The most emo song on their album is DEFINATELY i dont love you... MCR = <3

If "emo" means emotional, as it was originally, then yes they are. They have emotional music, but that's why most people like them.
If "emo" means cut-my-wrists-i-wish-i-would-die then no they aren't, they are completely anti-suicide, they're reason for playing the music they play, as Gerard has said in multiple interviews, is to keep kids alive who have considered suicide.

I'm a huge fan of MCR, and in a few of their songs i would consider them Emo..but most of the time, i guess they are Alternative/Punk/Pop Rock.

Toilet thinks that the term "EMO" has more to do with fashion choices, rather than the music itself.
For example, the faggotrons of "Panic! At The Disco" and "Fall Out Boy" choose to wear their sister's jeans and clothing, and such.
Toilet does not comply with these choices of lifestyles.
MCR are an arena rock band, but........
they are also pretty gay.

yes. my chemical romance is definitly an emo band. i personally hate their music and this whole emo scene that destroyed everything i love. emo is the aftermath of grunge and thrash. grunge killed my 80s hair metal. yes my chemical romance is an emo band and if you can't see that, then there must be soemthing wrong with you.
