Maybe I'm just used to seeing my house the way it is but I've noticed that when I've had my house cleaned, it looks REALLY good and when I clean it it just looks decent. What details do maids pay attention to that makes their work look good?

I make sure EVERYTHING is straightened up and put away. Counters are cleared of everything unnecessary. Linens and bath towels are fresh. Throw rugs are washed. Everything is dusted...that alone makes a big difference. All faucets are shined. Entry way windows are cleaned, shoes and boots are lined up. Like you said...you get used to seeing your house the way it is....there are alot of everyday things that we don't notice in our own homes. I always tell my clients that they do the everyday stuff and I do the detail work. And yes, when I vac I start at the far end and work backwards so I don't walk on the carpet after I'm done....I leave no footprints.

Perhaps it's also the thought of someone doing that chore for you that brings out the " REALLY GOOD" But I also know from experience, that cleaning personal, clean stoves, dishwashers, and also never sweep the flooring, they vaccum, when vaccumming a room they also start on one side then work backwards so as to give the impression that you should and would be the first to enter that room. Dusting, is also a key element, like blinds and the like. Just a tip for you though, give your cleaning person a note of thanks for a job well done, tell her/him how much you appreciate how the house looks when they are done. Take care

Dusting, vacuuming, wiping, polishing, straightening, tidying, and taking time to do them properly. Things you could do yourself if you really wanted to.
