I have been working at this company for 2 months in a senior-ish role and was due to go on my 2nd business trip abroad tomorrow at 8am. I was packing and only just realised that my passport was with my mortgage broker whose office is about 2 hours away from my house. I won't be able to take the train from London to Paris now and will have to call my boss to let her know that my assistant will be covering my appointments tomorrow in Paris. I am the kind of person who thinks that this sort of thing is totally unprofessional and unforgiveable. Is this going to damage all the good work I have done and mar my work persona/reputation?

Not at all sweety! First u did not do it on purpose. Second it can happen to anyone, including your boss, third you are being smart enough to get the event covered by sending your assistant so that your company is well represented. It is however best to tell the absolute truth to your boss and apologize and be more cautious in the future. If one were to be punished for any such trivial mistake, there would be no employees left in the world! So don’t worry darling, you are ok so long as u stick to the truth and be more cautious in the future. Mark my words, your boss will take the truth well and wont take any action against ya. Love yu

I would be taking a 4 hour round trip drive if I were you. Call the broker in the middle of the night, this is an emergency for gosh sakes.

If you can't wake the broker up, then call your boss first thing in the morning, and be ready for anything.

Remember, anyone can make a mistake.... You're mostly likely to get reprimanded. And you will never do it again.

things like this happen in life, cut yourself some slack and get on with it. You don't necessarily have to give such a detailed account to your contacts, merely that an emergency has come up. At least you have an assistant who can cover so nothing is lost. Think of it as a development opportunity for them. In future though maybe have 2 passports if you are doing a lot of travel.

Yes if your boss is like you. Let this be a lesson learned. Even the most dedicated people make mistakes. It sounds like your appointments will still be handled by your assistant. Thank your assistant and the next time h/she makes a mistake, remember this.

If you are desperate break in and retrieve the passport and leave a note. Or maybe you could break in with the help of a police witness that you did not take anything but your passport and will pay for any damage to the property. Sounds crazy but check it out.

You made a mistake your human. Just be alert from now on and don't make a similar mistake. Hard work and innovative ideas will more than overcome one mistake!!
Hang in there and put it behind you. Dwell on the things you've done that are good for the company and continue to do good things!!!!

chill out. Your boss should think 'there but for the grace of God.....'
It will be a little like the old adage that the best way to remember your wife's birthday is to forget it once.

Either that or phone in sick tomorrow morning.

I do agree with what you are saying , however , you can be honest with your employer , tell her the situation , and be sure not to let it happen ago .Most likey this will not look good for you , but not to say that they wouldnt understand your situation . It can easily happen and has with you .
It sounds like a job of a life time and I wish you luck all goes well !!!!!!
