Seems like that old saying wouldn't make sense in today's world where pots and kettles come in all colours. It used to be that pots, pans and kettles were all generally made of black cast iron.

I also think it's outdated, because it seems borderline un-PC these days. But I do find myself saying things like, "Hello Pot! Hello, Kettle!" to people when they don't realize they're accusing each other of the same thing. They usually get it, and just laugh. You could modernize the saying though, by comparing anything that has the same use. 'Well isn't that the Blackberry calling the Razor a cell phone?!" etc...

maybe and just an off the wall guess today seems to be about money more than anything else so why not
