...thought to the fact that I may just agree with what some republicans believe also? Everyone does NOT embrace any particular political party. Some of us prefer to think for ourselves. It is disheartening that some Repubs are so closed-minded so as to believe anyone who does not agree with them WHOLEHEARTEDLY regarding EACH and EVERY issue is a 'Democrat". Well then, remember my name. I am neither Demo NOR Repub NOR independent. I think for myself which is very healthy I might add. When you call others names or condescend to their way of thnking, t paints a picture of you as a person who is fearful that your party is about to die or something.

Perhaps we can all just agree to disagree without defining each other. Especially regarding political matters. All right?

I have never been 'attacked' by a democrat, I read ALL answers and have done so since I first came here. Republicans DEFINE themselves, always, and they usually add a few insults.
But again, I think for myself. I have a problem with those who seek to define me. Perhaps I am not ready to declare a political party, ever give a thought to that? I'm young. In early twenties. I probably pay more attention to what you say than the average person. When I vote in 2008 it will be for the best person for the job. not because of their political affiliation.

You have good questions and answers Rare. I agree too, that I think for MYSELF, and don't permitt others to do it for me. The name calling on this site does get carried away. If you disagree with someone you can almost count on someone useing foul language at you and in my case one very strange person reported me and sent e-mails calling me a retard and going nuts. I had to block him from e-mailing me he got so wierd. Thanks for the question maybe you'll get through to at least one person, and we can get intellegent feedback to some of our questions.

Not bashing here, but if your not affiliated with a political group you are an independent.

As for some republicans being closed minded and not democrats I would have to say read some of the answers posted on this site. You get just as many closed minded opinions from both sides the left and the right. And the farther left or right they are the louder the venom they spew. An example, if one supports the current conflict they are a war monger, a baby killer etc. but if they are against it, they are a peacenik, clueless, a traitor etc.

You said "Perhaps I am not ready to declare a political party, ever give a thought to that?" I'm in my forties and have never and will never 'declare' my affiliation to a political party.

From your question ( and without having a political discussion with you) I would place you as an independent with liberal (democratic party) leaning tendencies.

Try quantifying your views and opinions and comparing them to the parties I'm guessing they may be slightly left of center. For me it is just the opposite, I'm constantly bashed by democrats but I know my view points and tendencies are slightly right of center.

Keep an open mind, stay aware of the issues and vote the way you feel is best.

As an independent I support neither party, they are full of thieves and liars, that's why I am an independent. I said basically the same thing in an earlier answer, not everyone who is not a republican, is a liberal. It's something about the republican mentality, if you are not a republican, you are the enemy. I have no idea of what they think they are defending. The older I get the more I look at the republican party the way I looked at President Nixon, paranoid.

I understand your point. However, it is condescending when you say you think for yourself, unlike Republicans. I'm a Republican and have no trouble thinking for myself. As you get older, you will see that aligning yourself with a political party, whether you agree or disagree wholeheartedly with their platform, is the only way to empower your ideas. It's a tough road. I don't agree with all the Republican ideals, but it comes closer to my values than does any other party.

Might be because the republican party want to do all the thinking for the people of their party. If you can think for yourself then you are a democrat in their eyes.
When I first registered to vote, I registered as not belonging to any party, the people in the political system automatically took it upon themselves to register me as a democrat.
There are things I agree with on both sides and things I disagree.

Here's a box of kleenex, from a caring conservative.

Now, what party are you then? This is politics.

I sure don't agree with everything the Republicans do, either (and especially not the Dems). But I don't see a need to vent about it.

Your whole speech lost it's power when you attacked the Republicans. If you had said why is it if you don't agree with one party that makes you automatically a part of the other party. You have biased in you so I don't buy anything more of what you say.

It is more convenient for us if you become a part of a single party and stick with it, through sickness and health.

Some people have a "black-white" point of view.
There are many kinds of gray, though.
