Tennessee...State of Franklin--- the Overmountain folks set up their own country by seceding from North Carolina. John Sevier and his buddies had their own little country for a brief spell before the territory became the State of Tennessee.

Tennesseans would go on to help make Texas, first a country and then a state.

Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. In 1845, it joined the United States as the 28th state.

The Republic of Hawaii was the formal name of Hawaii from 1894 to 1898 when it was run as a republic. In 1898, Hawaii was annexed to the United States of America and attained statehood in 1959.
