I was wondering how much difference this would make and how much I should go . The reason I want to do this is I always ride in deep sand and would like to go to a paddle tire but am afraid I will not have enough power to run them

The 400ex has decent power. Install the paddle tires and check if it has enough, before changing your sprockets (you might not have to).

Stock sprockets are 15/38.
Start out inexpensively with a 14 front.
Then add a 40 rear.
Then try the 42 rear.

Low gears,,and flat out is the only way to travell on soft sand.
Just my opinion.
