This is going to be a long answer, but this is what I believe (I'm sorry if I offend anyone).
Personally and honestly? If you've seen the Saw series by Lion's Gate (they have three movies out), then you probably know of the main villain, Jigsaw. I honestly believe he had the right idea, but he went a little overboard.
I'm not saying to hang everyone who commits a crime, but punishment should definately fit the crime. If you steal something from a store without harming anyone, then you should work an X amount of hours that will equal up to 10x what that item is worth and fill in a certain amount of community service hours. If you rob a bank, then you should go to prison and be forced to pound big rocks into little rocks, unless you murder someone in the process.
If you commit rape, murder, abuse, and other heavy crimes of such nature, you should face death in a scathingly brutal way, like in one of Jigsaw's games. And the law should allow for one solution to the "puzzle", even though the executioner could make it so that is exceedingly hard to get there.
If you commit adultry, your spouse should be entitled to everything you acquired, including kids, during the course of your marriage and lose the marriage itself without the need for divorce, unless your spouse decides to order you into marriage counseling.
And of course, if it was a slap on the face, the victim should have the right to put the attacker's face into the pavement.
But is the Death penalty ethical? For unforgivable crimes like murder? Yes. But no, it shouldn't be a "peaceful, let's put the animal to sleep" kind of death. No. Throw the murderer into a room, give the victims' family some 12 inch sharp or blunt objects of their choice, and TURN 'EM LOOSE! Just make sure you have a big bowl of Kettle Corn ready so I can watch the show.
Or, subject them to one of the games featured in the Saw movies for greater suspense.

I have mixed feelings on the death penalty. I am against abortion because it takes a life, and the same for the death penalty. HOWEVER- I think the death penalty is a lot more ethical than holding a person in a 8x8 cell for the rest of their lives. I'm for supervised community work and hard labor over life in prison, definately. There's got to be a way to punish criminals, but by killing them, are we any better than them?

I believe the Death penalty is ethical. But only in cases where there are witnesses to the Crime or a Confession. For obvious reasons. namely unethical police and prosecutors.

You need to find out the facts about the death penalty before you make up your mind. You can visit the Death Penalty Information Center at www.deathpenaltyinfo.org to find out about cost, whether we execute the worst of the worst, alternatives, risks of executing the wrong person and letting the actual criminal go free (to close a case), effects of the death penalty on families of murder victims, DNA, deterrence.
Then, common sense will do the rest.

Democrats are against the Death Penalty.
They believe that murderers and child molesters & killers can be cured by:
1. Taking "Sensitivity Classes".
2. Getting a "Big Democrat Group Hug".

Yes it is ethical. It's also resourceful! Quite frankly, I think we should all do as Texas has, and make a Fast Lane to Execution.

I agree. What is unethical is making us PAY for a criminal to rot in prison.
